The road is kind of narrow, but paved until just before the parking lot.

Starting at the lower parking lot follow the paved trail past Farmington Pond and down the hill past the waterfall. As you near the bottom of the hill you will see a gate. This prevents road traffic from entering Farmington Creek Trail. As you walk past the gate, the trail picks back up kitty-corner from the gate.
